Doing our best for Wolmers Schools in Jamaica.......
A few years ago, a small group of Wolmerians living
here in South Florida came together and decided that it was time
to give back to their schools. The intent was to find an effective
way to help maintain the rich tradition of education from which all
Wolmerians have benefited, a most critical asset to the ongoing development
of the young people of Jamaica. It was with this objective in mind
that the Wolmer’s Alumni Association, South Florida Chapter
was founded on July 12, 1997. The organization is headed by an Executive
Committee of five members who are elected annually.
Currently, the Association reaches out to more than 200 alumni in
the area and boasts active members with graduation dates from the
1950’s all the way to the year 2000. Our monthly meetings,
that include a variety of activities in addition to the business
of the association, are typically attended by about 30 Wolmerians
(and any guests they might bring from time to time). The meetings
are hosted in the homes of members or at other convenient locations
and provide a great opportunity for fun, fellowship, and networking.
Those who cannot make it to our meetings but wish to stay involved
benefit from the association’s newsletters and website that
spread the word about recent activities and newsworthy events. Special
annual events include a banquet, church service, family fun day and
dance party.
The growing accomplishments of the organization include:
As a 501C-3 Non-Profit organization, it is a part of our mission to contribute to the local community as well. We have been doing so in a number of ways, including:
We encourage all Wolmerians (and friends of Wolmerians) living in the South Florida area to get involved in the association.
